Getting Started
How do I create an account?
Click "Sign up" in the top right corner of any page. You'll need to provide your email, password, phone number, date of birth, and a profile picture for verification.
What services does UniportVA offer?
UniportVA provides three main services:
- Drive: Post available rides and earn money by giving rides to other students
- Ride: Find available rides posted by drivers
- Items: Send packages and items between locations
Using the Platform
How do I post a ride?
Go to the "Drive" page, fill out your route details (from/to locations, date, time, number of seats, and price), then click "Publish Ride". You'll be redirected to sign up or log in if needed.
How do I find a ride?
Visit the "Ride" page, enter your travel details in the "Request a Ride" section, and see matching available rides highlighted in orange. Available rides will be sorted by best matches.
How do I send items?
Go to the "Items" page, specify pickup and drop-off locations, select delivery date, item size, fragility level, and your maximum price. Add details about your items and submit your request.
Location & Pricing
What locations are supported?
We primarily serve routes between Northern Virginia (Fairfax, Reston, Tysons, etc.) and Virginia Tech in Blacksburg. The platform learns new locations as users add them.
How does pricing work?
Drivers set their own prices per seat for rides. For items, you specify your price and drivers can accept it. Prices are typically $35-40 per seat and $15-20 for items depending on distance and demand.
Why can't I select "Virginia Tech to Virginia Tech"?
This route is disabled as it doesn't make sense for ridesharing. You need to travel between different locations.
Safety & Verification
How do you verify users?
All users must provide a profile picture for verification purposes. We also require valid phone numbers and email addresses. Users must be at least 18 years old.
Is my personal information safe?
Yes, we take privacy seriously. Your profile picture is required for verification but stored securely. Contact information is only shared between matched users.
Technical Issues
The calendar isn't showing properly on mobile
Try refreshing the page or clearing your browser cache. The calendar should display as a modal overlay on mobile devices.
My city suggestions aren't working
The platform learns new cities as users type them. If your city isn't appearing, try typing it exactly as it appears on maps, and it will be added to the system after multiple uses.
I can't submit forms
Make sure all required fields are filled out. Check that your phone number is valid (10 digits), email is properly formatted, and you're at least 18 years old for signup.
